Summary (內容提要):
New black hole discoveries in the 21st Century have been found by a Hong Kong native. Dr. Ha will first give an introduction to spacetime and its connection to the black hole. He will review the various theorems previously discovered about black holes in the Hawking era and then introduce a new theorem discovered by him – the Horizon Mass Theorem. He will discuss the powerful gravitational energy and other irreducible energies associated with different black holes.
The most important black hole in astrophysics is the rotating black hole also known as the Kerr black hole. New properties of these black holes have been found by Dr. Ha, including rotational inertia, extended structure and the possible removal of singularity. These results will deepen our understanding of what a black hole really is. Black holes are now real astrophysical bodies, and their secrets are to be explored.
Speaker (講者):Prof. Y.K. HA (夏原吉教授 )
Prof. Ha is a native of Hong Kong, a theoretical physicist with a Ph. D. from Yale University. In the 1980s, he worked in the field of particle physics at New York University and Rockefeller University. Since then, he has been teaching and doing research at Temple University for the last 40 years. His field is general relativity and black hole physics. Currently he is a retired professor of physics.
He was an invited Plenary Speaker at the Sixteenth Marcel Grossmann Meeting on General Relativity and Relativistic Astrophysics in 2021. He has won several awards from the Gravity Research Foundation in U. S. for his work on black holes in the last 20 years.
